Role:

The Electrical estimator evaluates the scope of proposed electrical projects to develop a comprehensive cost estimate. In this role, you assess labor and material costs, providing a detailed description of the requirements for customer review.

 

Will work with project managers to procure materials, understand scope of work, and change order management. Work in PROCORE to keep up to date with bid projects.

Responsibilities

  • Estimate and help manage large and small electrical projects. Work with customers get access to projects open for bid electrical projects Help procure parts and supplies for projects they estimated Work with project managers to bid change orders  
  • Develops and applies electrical knowledge to build accurate estimates and bid estimates for outside project sales 
  • Reviews project blueprints, technical drawings, and other documentation to understand the full scope of the electrical project 
  • Calculates the costs of labor, materials, and other project-related expenses and ensures estimates reflect current market conditions and pricing 
  • Conducts product selections and take-offs based on plans and specifications and creates proposals for customers for all projects (to be bid as product specified or as alternate)  
  • Compiles and submits comprehensive bids for electrical projects, ensuring all necessary components are included and accurately priced 
  • Works closely with project managers, contractors, and other necessary stakeholders to ensure estimates align with project goals and specifications 
  • Stays updated on industry trends, pricing, and new technologies to ensure estimates are competitive and reflect current standards 
  • Maintains organized records of all estimates, bids, and project-related documentation for future reference and compliance 
  • Provides ongoing communication with customers, suppliers, sub-contractors, etc.  
  • Determines customer’s opportunities, needs, constraints, and responsibilities to meet all of the customer's electrical system design and installation needs 
  • Develops relationships with multiple buying influences in the customer's organization  
  • Promptly and accurately responds to customer needs by identifying systems, products, generating quotes and closing orders  
  • Provides a high level of internal and external customer service  
  • Customer relationship management (CRM) activities and tasking  
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Extensive knowledge of relevant construction codes
  • Extensive understanding of electrical systems
  • Strong ability to interpret electrical plans, customer specifications, and bidding requirements
  • Strong project budgeting abilities
  • Strong time management skills and consistent punctuality are essential to ensure reliable performance and meet operational requirements
  • Strong ability to follow directions and collaborate well with others
  • Strong ability to perform under the pressure of deadlines
  • Proficient in computer use, phone communication, and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective interactions with customers and staff, both written and verbal
  • Skilled in customer liaison and communication
  • Effective time management skills, with the ability to complete tasks accurately and on schedule
  • Keen attention to detail and capability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
  • Must be flexible with scheduling to accommodate customer needs, including the ability to work outside regular business hours as required

Education and Experience: 

  • 5+ years of Electrical field experience, and estimating experience 
  • Preferred combination of HVAC field experience, education, and estimating expertise
  • High school degree or equivalent 
  • Preferred BS/BA degree from a four-year accredited university or college

 

Physical requirements: 

  • Continuously able to work in office environment 
  • Continuously able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine, telephone, and computer printer 
  • Continuously able to sit at a computer for up to 8 hours  
  • Able to alternate between sitting and standing, as needed throughout the day 
  • Occasionally able to lift up to 25 lbs. 
  • Continuously requires vision, hearing, twisting, and talking  
  • Occasionally requires walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, bending, and crouching  
  • Frequently requires climbing ladders
  • Must be willing to travel up to 25% or as needed. (May be required to walk job sites and work on jobsites if necessary.)
