What You’ll Be Doing

The Senior Accountant is a key contributor to ensuring the financial accuracy and integrity of the organization. This role is responsible for analyzing transactions, improving processes, supporting strategic financial decisions, and driving high-quality financial reporting and account reconciliations. The ideal candidate is proactive, collaborative across functions, and eager to identify and implement improvements that enhance operational efficiency.

This position plays a critical role in the accuracy of key processes, including sales tax compliance and debt accounting.

Responsibilities

  • General Accounting & Month-End Close
    • Owns preparation of key journal entries and associated account reconciliations
    • Analyzes financial statements, identifies variances or unusual trends, and escalate significant findings as needed
    • Supports monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and audit readiness
    • Leads and mentors junior accounting staff; reviews their work for completeness and accuracy
    • Assists with the preparation and validation of financial data in reporting systems (e.g., OneStream, Oracle HFM)
    • Cross-trains on bank reconciliations and supports monthly account reviews and discrepancy resolution
  • Debt Reporting & Reconciliation
    • Maintains and reconciles detailed debt schedules, including tracking of interest and principal payments
    • Prepares related journal entries for debt, interest accruals, and necessary financial adjustments
  • Sales Tax Preparation & Reporting
    • Owns the preparation and filing of multi-state sales and use tax returns
    • Generates monthly sales tax reports using the ERP system; calculates taxable revenue by state in Excel
    • Partners with the Tax team to investigate discrepancies and ensures compliance across jurisdictions
    • Maintains compliance with internal controls and upholds company policies and accounting procedures
    • Collaborates professionally with internal stakeholders and external partners, maintaining a high level of service and integrity
    • Completes tasks with accuracy, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement
    • Other related job duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Self-motivated, adaptive learner with a strong sense of ownership
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • High attention to detail and strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, IF formulas, Power Pivot; VBA/Macros a plus
  • In-depth knowledge of multi-state sales tax compliance
  • Strong foundation in debt accounting and general ledger reconciliation processes
  • Familiarity with ASC 842 (Leases) and ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition) strongly preferred

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of four (4) years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger and financial reporting responsibilities
  • Direct experience with sales tax, debt schedules, and bank reconciliations
  • Experience in large or private equity-backed companies ($100M+ revenue) highly desirable
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, NetSuite)
  • Previous experience in HVAC Industry or other service business preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in an office environment consistently, with a hybrid 3/2 schedule (three days onsite, two days remote per week), subject to management discretion and business needs
  • Continuously able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine, telephone, and computer printer
  • Continuously able to sit at a computer for up to 8 hours
  • Able to alternate between sitting and standing, as needed throughout the day
  • Occasionally able to lift up to 15
  • Continuously requires vision, hearing, twisting, and talking
  • Occasionally requires walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, bending, and crouching
  • Rarely requires climbing
  • Ability to travel on occasion
