What You’ll Be Doing

The Fabrication Technician uses various techniques to fabricate metal items, including welding, drilling, grinding, and sawing. Since these items are often used in production, the Fabrication Technician must be able to read technical drawings and ensure each project is completed correctly. Duties include reading blueprints and schematics, aligning components and using hand tools or machines to complete the assembly process.

Responsibilities

  • Perform custom design plans as assigned
  • Perform stainless and standard metal welding as assigned
  • Keep the fabrication work area clean at all times
  • Wear safety gear at all times when engaged in fabrication welding, grinding, and polishing, including eye protection, gloves, and fire-resistant clothing
  • Fabricate metal items using various techniques, such as welding, drilling, grinding, and sawing
  • Read and interpret technical drawings
  • Troubleshoot issues with the fabrication or equipment
  • Read detailed schematics for complex machines
  • Use hand tools and power tools to trim, cut and fit components into the final product
  • Weld and solder pieces together
  • Align components and connect them with bolts and screws
  • Find faulty components in defective products to fix them
  • Participate in company-provided training opportunities and adhere to all safety policies and procedures
  • Follow OSHA Safety Guidelines
  • Identify and report potential opportunities for additional business
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

 

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination
  • Proficient in reading schematics and work plans
  • Proficient shop math skills (accurate with decimals & fractions)
  • Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and understand instructions and safety criteria provided
  • Ability to learn to read and understand manufacturing planning and precision measurement equipment, as needed
  • Ability to have a proactive, positive attitude and a strong sense of self-motivation, accountability, and responsibility
  • Manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude
  • Basic electrical and machining skills including surface grinders, lathes, vertical milling machines preferred
  • Knowledge of Hydraulic/pneumatic systems desirable
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • MIG and TIG welding skills preferred

 

 

 

 

 

What We’re Looking For

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 3+ Years of recent related experience required
  • Experience with industrial and fabrication or welding machinery
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Physical Requirements

 

  • Continuously able to work in warehouse environment
  • Continuously able to operate machinery
  • Able to stand for extended periods and alternate between sitting and standing, as needed throughout the day
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Continuously requires vision, hearing, twisting, and/or talking
  • Continuously requires walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, bending, and crouching
  • Rarely requires climbing
  • Ability to travel on occasion
